The prophet Isaiah is known as the "prophet of the Messiah" because of several writings which foretold of a coming savior for his people. His (the Messiah) was a "celebration of life." This particular scroll is chosen from Isaiah, chapter 53. The name of the Messiah is not mentioned, but the description of Him says, "He shall grow up before him as a tender plant, He has no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him." The passage goes on to describe His person as one of a "suffering servant" who will give His life willingly for us. His ultimate sacrifice promised a great reward.
I chose to portray this Messiah juxtaposed over the portion of the Torah scroll in Isaiah 53 where He is described. May we honor His sacrifice by celebrating the fullness of Life!
