"A Daughter of Israel"

"Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun..."

Song of Songs 6:10

What a beautiful description of one of the daughters of Israel. The Song of Songs is often interpreted as being a love story between Solomon and a young shepherd woman. As the narrative relates, theirs  is a hide-and-seek relationship, which promises fulfillment in the discovery of love.

Bible scholars see the Church of today as  "grafted in"-like a wild olive tree into a broken branch, sharing the root & sustaining life (Roman 11:17). By the Spirit of Adoption, the Gentile Church shares in a love relationship with God as did the shepherdess with Solomon.

This painting was inspired by a granddaughter who recently visited Israel. As a Jewish descendant, she has hazel eyes and blond hair, thus, breaking the stereotyped concept of the dark-haired, olive skin Jew. I am reminded through this painting that in the New Jerusalem, the Church will be represented by ALL nations of the earth (Rev. 5:9). Thank you for looking!

"The Covenant King" by Vonnie Kohn, Contemporary Inspirational Painting

"Covenant King"

12 x 12" Gallery wrapped

Mixed Media

This is one of my earliest works & was created as an illustration for a Bible course. It has, of course, sold. The message is still relevant to us today. The Lion is a representative of the Lion of Judah known as the future Messiah. The temple is His Holy court. The brilliant rays are the light of the Shekinah (or the visible manifest presence of The Holy One...God).

As Believers we recognize Jesus as our "Covenant" between the Old and the New Testaments. Hebrews 8:6 says that "He is the mediator of a better covenant that was established on better promises." In verse 10, it says, "This is the covenant that I will make with Israel after those days....I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts..." The 10 laws written on stone (actually 613) are now softened with Grace and Love. It is with this thought in mind that I present "The Covenant King."

"The Rose of Sharon" by Vonnie Kohn, inspirational, floral, Biblical painting

As we near the time of Valentine's Day, it seems that a  painting of love is in order. This is a painting with two ideas juxtaposed together. One is an image of the actual wild rose found in the desert areas of Israel & the Middle East. The other is the idea of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who is referred to as the "Rose of Sharon." The Song of Solomon 2:1 reads,  "I am the rose of Sharon and the lily of the valleys."  In the New Testament, Bible scholars agree that this is also a symbol of Christ and His Church.

I was inspired by the idea that the "real" Rose passed by these beautiful flowers as He set forth to establish His kingdom in our hearts, as was promised to the prophets.
